Our 2024 alums

We are pleased that several of our personnel are moving on to bigger and better things! Gavin John will be enrolling as an undergraduate at Cal Tech. Ben Reimler will be enrolling as an MMMP PhD student at WUSM. Galen Wong will be attending the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM).

Ben Reimler was awarded a talk at the Washington University Undergraduate Research Symposium and crushed it! Congrats Ben! Ben will be staying on after graduation as a technician for the upcoming year!

Schwartz cameos in WUSM Grease

Dr. Schwartz performed a cameo in the WUSM musical Grease. Galen Wong performed makeup, Jessica Tung was the conductor, and Connie Yang supported all of her friends!

Welcome MMMP rotation student, Duyen Bui (Links to an external site)

Duyen Bui

Duyen Bui is a first year PhD student in the Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Pathogenesis Program. She graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2022 with a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a BA in Biological Sciences. She previously conducted research on the genetic basis of distinct lysogenic phenotypes of two closely related bacteriophages and measured the effectiveness of an antibiotic adjuvant in combination with vancomycin against a panel of Gram-positive pathogens. In her free time, she enjoys doing portrait photography, theatre, singing, and reading.

Lindsey Hall

Lindsey grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is a current CSB Rotation student at Washington University in St. Louis. She graduated from the University of Rochester in 2020 with a BS in Computational Biology. She developed a passion for microbiology during her ORISE Fellowship at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, where she conducted genomic analyses of antibiotic resistance trends and bacterial epidemiology to investigate possible sources of nosocomial transmission and emerging infectious disease threats. Outside of research, Lindsey enjoys hiking with her dog and playing board games.

Lingxia Zhao

Lingxia Zhao grew up in Heibei, China and earned her B.A. while working in an analytical chemistry lab in Beijing. She has extensive work experience in analytical chemistry and molecular biology research at both Washington University and NewLeaf Symbiotics. With her time outside of the lab, she enjoys gardening, fishing, and going on walks with her family.
